History
It was first produced in 1941 by British
scientists Whinfield and Dickson, who patented it as a polymer for fiber
manufacturing. It must be remembered that his country was in full war and there
was a pressing need to find substitutes for cotton from Egypt. As of 1946 it
began to be used industrially as fiber and its textile use has continued until
the present.
In 1952 it began to be used as a film to package food. But the
application that meant its main market was in rigid containers, from 1976.
It
was able to break through thanks to its particular ability to manufacture
bottles for drinks that are not sensitive to oxygen such as mineral water and
carbonated soft drinks. Since the early 2000s it has also been used for beer
packaging.
Chemically PET is a polymer that is obtained by a
polycondensation reaction between phthalic Tere acid and ethylene glycol. It
belongs to the group of polyesters called synthetic materials. It is a linear
thermo-plastic polymer, with a high degree of crystallinity.
The capabilities and physical properties of the pet
have been the reasons why incredible advances in technology have been developed
in terms of textile production in a wide variety of containers, bottles,
bottles, strips, sheets and automotive parts, due to the advantages it offers ,
the international
manufacturers of machines have dedicated a great thermal and
commercial effort to design equipment and complete lines for the transformation
of the pet, is linked to the adequate commercialization of raw material allowed
the expansion of its use throughout the world
